Radical Muslims arrested for throwing eggs at debate

Two Muslim clerics from Belgium who stormed into a debate on Islam in Amsterdam have been taken into custody.

The pair, aged 19 and 22, were among a group of about 20 radical Muslims who burst in during the debate in De Balie on Wednesday night, throwing eggs and shouting: “Allah Akbar!”

Speakers included prominent Dutch Muslims such as Green Left (GroenLinks) MP Tofik Dibi and commentator Irshad Manji.

Dibi said on his Twitter page that police had asked him and Manji to leave the stage, but he refused.

The debate, which focused on modernising Islam, continued after police stepped in to remove the radicals, who are believed to belong to a group called Sharia4Belgium.

They are expected to appear in court on Friday.
